JupiterResearch, recently sold by JupiterMedia, announced a few days ago the prediction that the mobile video market will generate revenues of over $500 million by 2010, up from $62 million in 2005, and has found that 41% of mobile phone users are interested in some form of video service on their mobile phone.
Getty Images announced today an extended mobile strategy to bring news, sports and entertainment mobile-ready images and video clips to mobile customers through partnerships with mobile operators, content creators/content aggregators, technology partners, celebrities and professional sports organizations. Or, as Brooks McMahon, VP of new products and platforms at Getty Images, stated, "it's no longer just about the voice on the other end." Details:
- Cooperation with mobile operator Sprint:
Getty Images' PictureCast(TM) WAP application will bring consumers the service twice a day, "telling the day's news, sports and entertainment information".
- Cooperation with content creator MSNBC.com:
Getty Images will ensure that all rights issues are closely managed.
Getty Images has provided imagery for MSNBC.com since the beginning. MSNBC states that "we are extending that relationship into important emerging platforms like mobile devices."
- Cooperation with content creator USATODAY.com:
Getty Images will ensure that all rights issues are closely managed.
USATODAY adds that "whether it's capturing special red carpet shots at a Hollywood awards event, or defining moments at major sporting events, we're pleased to have Getty Images provide pictures to support news stories on our new mobile application."
- Cooperation with third party applications like GoTV:
GoTV explains that "Getty Images' integration with our system was seamless. The images that are incorporated into our programs bring the most colorful components of today's news, entertainment and sports to our mobile viewers."
- Cooperation with technology partners and
content aggregators like Cingular Wireless:
Getty Images states "that over the past year, Getty Images has developed its first picture-based casual game, PictoMatch(TM), distributed via Cingular Wireless, a growing library of unique video ringtones for its European and Asia-Pacific partners, and a robust wallpaper and screensaver collection distributed globally via a number of content aggregators."
It will be interesting to watch if or if not the NYSE will award these efforts (GYI is currently at $ 75.04).
