Platt´s picture shows "a group of young Lebanese driving through a South Beirut neighborhood devastated by Israeli bombings. The picture was taken on 15 August 2006, the first day of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah when thousands of Lebanese started returning to their homes". More details here.

WPP said that "this year 4,460 photographers from 124 countries entered a total number of 78,083 images. For the first time this year entries could be made over the web. 1,893 photographers (42.5%) submitted 35,839 high-res images via the internet. Distribution of entrants was even wider than in previous years, with participation growing across South and Central America in particular. Growth has been especially strong in Brazil, notching up an increase of 15% for two years in a row. The number of Brazilian entrants now stands at 121, with over 14,000 images".
