Ceterum Censeo: Pino Granata´s It's time to react

The magazine Forbes, one of the most sold and most prestigious magazines in the world, has used pictures which were bought from a microstock agency to illustrate one of its articles.

This is an answer to all the people who have always claimed that microstock was going to sell only to clients that can´t afford to pay full prices.

  • Mochila lands photo deal with Getty, Zuma, Jupiter:
Internet content syndication marketplace company Mochila said on Thursday it has landed deals to make photographs from the catalogs of three major photo agencies available to editors and independent Web sites.
Getty Images Inc., Zuma Press and Jupitermedia will license part of its catalogs for the service, which lets editors from major media companies and bloggers use its content for a fee or on an advertising supported basis.
The deal expands Mochila's content marketplace network of buyers and sellers of photos, video and text. Its current network includes over 1,000 global media companies such as the Associated Press, The Financial Times and New York Magazine. [...]

  • Paris Hilton is Persona Non Grata:
People had been set late last week to pay $300,000 to Getty Images for photography rights to accompany an exclusive interview at the same time that Hilton was working on a $1 million interview with NBC.
At the time, People Managing Editor Larry Hackett was insisting that People's deal was a "photography deal" only and that the magazine was not paying for the interview - which would have meant he was breaking Time Inc. editorial guidelines. But a public backlash erupted over the ditzy celebutante cashing in on her drunk-driving crimes with instant millions. NBC, as the biggest enabler, drew the most public criticism, but amid the furious backlash, People and Hilton abandoned their deal.
In yesterday's interview conducted by Jess Cagle and Lizz Leonard, Getty was out of the picture and People hired freelance photographer Nigel Parry for the shoot.

Killed in action: No more Flickr images on PictureSandbox

Picturesandbox_2 Flickr again pulled the plug.

Flickr for sure has its very own reasons for this decision, and anyone has to respect that.

But if it were not so sad for the "victims", it would be laughable. If it were not so unpleasant for the involved persons, any non-combatant observer would consider this whole mess to be only more odd fun along the road: "We are so sorry, but your Flickr API Key license has expired".

Update on SnapVillage´s pricing structure

Yesterday I reported that SnapVillage offers images in six price categories ("Free", $1, $5, $10, $25 and $50), but when searching for images that nevertheless the following text appeared close to an image, indicating that an "extended" Product License was also availabe for that image for $125 which "buys you redistribution privileges".

The price tag $125 was mentioned yesterday neither in the press release nor in the FAQ section. SnapVillages has apparently updated this section in the meantime and writes now: "Images are set a $1, $5, $10, $25 or $50 if you acquire a standard license. If you acquire a product license*, the corresponding price points are: $35, $50, $80, $100 and $125". See screenshot below. Calculation: Standard License x35, x10, x8, x4, x2.5.

Corbis only needs to attach a special and pure photosharing module to SnapVillage with the ability to store images for a lifetime (if they want to get into the photosharing business) and a special module for the needs of professional photographers (similar to PhotoShelter) ... . And two worlds are merging.

Ceterum Censeo: Pino Granata on SnapVillage by Corbis

The news is old.

At the lunch offered by CEPIC I had a quick exchange of ideas with my old friend Jim Pickerell and my new friend Andy Goetze. What do you think of Gary Shenk, they asked me. Well, I said, it seems to me that with him things won´t be different at Corbis, it´s just like it was under Steve Davis.
