Pino Granata: Much Ado About Nothing

 

Black Lots of new mega photo portals and agencies are announced. All these promise miracles but most of the time photographers are very disappointed with the results.

Photographers don“t give a damn to know that Getty Images“ turnover is around 800 millions dollars per year.

They want to know how much their agents have sold for them and what kind of price they get for their pictures.

Mostly photographers are not interested in volume. They want to know if they have a return for the money they have invested in the reportage they have shot in Burma or Pakistan.

The big agencies care very little about doing this in a way that John Smith, Peter Muller or Alfredo Rossi make money for the time and for the money they have invested.

Pino Granata: Who's afraid of Getty Images and company?

 

Black The trend is clear.

Clients are leaving Getty Images, Corbis and other photo agencies and they go to Microstock.

Once you start with this sales policy and behaviour you can never stop.

There are the Wal-Mart photo agencies (Getty Images, Corbis, and others) and there are the 99 cents agencies, the microstock photo agencies.

Well, in this kind of market there are also the Saks, the Harrods and the Lafayettes.

Who are they?

The agencies which deal in editorial content.
