Laguna Beach, CA - February 17, 2004. Today, Laguna Beach-based international picture agency and wire service ZUMA Press Inc. announced the launch of two new initiatives that are part of its continued efforts to represent, promote and inspire outstanding photojournalism. The first, zReportage.com, is an elite editorial picture service dedicated to the presentation and licensing of complete bodies of work by today's leading photojournalists. ZUMA's second initiative is the debut of DOUBLEtruck, a self-published magazine that celebrates high-impact photography of important issues around the world.
"The impetus for our two initiatives follows a decade of amazing growth and our extraordinary success in 2003," said Scott Mc Kiernan, director and founder of ZUMA Press. "zReportage.com and DOUBLEtruck are two ways we are giving back to the photographers that made us a leading source for award-winning editorial photography," he said.
In reference to zReportage's approach to licensing photo essays in their entirety, Mc Kiernan said, "package licensing is a groundbreaking, daring concept given the tendency for media outlets to piece together images from different sources or use a one small image to illustrate a complex issue. Though sometimes necessary, it often changes or marginalizes the photographer's vision for their story."
DOUBLEtruck Magazine offers 60 pages of ZUMA's outstanding published and never-seen images. "At the height of magazine photojournalism, doubletrucks populated the media landscape. Though more and more rare, having your picture published across two full pages is still considered the ultimate coup in our industry. We thought it only fitting to celebrate our photographers' success by showcasing their strongest works in this format," he said.
