Marking a major milestone, Fotolog, the world's largest photo blogging community, today welcomed its one millionth Fotologger. A bona fide global cultural phenomenon, Fotolog is one of the fastest-growing sites on the web.
Founded in 2002 as a small photo-sharing project for a few dozen friends, Fotolog is a thriving online community where people from around the world interact and connect through a massive network of personal photo journals, or photo blogs. Hailing from more than 200 countries, members post more than 180,000 photos to Fotolog each day -- attracting the site more than 750 million page views a month.
Fotolog CEO Adam Seifer, who posts photographs of every major meal he eats at "Get in My Belly" (http://www.fotolog.net/cypher), said the company milestone is a testament to Fotolog's members, who have helped build the community through strong word of mouth and email.
"Unlike traditional blogs where you have to come up with something interesting to write everyday, Fotolog has been embraced because it allows people to express themselves through photos in a very supportive environment," said Seifer. "It's a community that people want to invite their friends and family to be a part of."
Combining the best of two wildly popular trends -- digital photography and blogging -- Fotolog enables members to create Fotologs, where they use photographs for every form of self-expression imaginable -- recording the fleeting moments of everyday life, sharing special moments, staying in touch with friends and family, telling stories, or mounting elaborate art projects.
Unlike online photo albums or individual blogs, Fotolog features extremely active guest books, which allow members to receive constant -- and often instant -- feedback on their work. A visual Friends/Favorites feature enables visitors to easily explore the wider Fotolog universe.
In addition to individual journals, the site features Group Fotologs where all community members can contribute photographs covering specific themes and subjects, such as "Banned" (http://www.fotolog.net/banned), which showcases photos of people, places, and things that are banned and "Grammarpuss" (http://www.fotolog.net/grammarpuss), which chronicles incorrect grammar eyesores.
To celebrate its one millionth member, Fotolog kicked off "Million Member/Million Moments" (http://www.fotolog.net/onemillion), a community-wide photo project lasting for one million minutes (or eleven days) where Fotolog members will be uploading photographs that depict the number 1,000,000 -- either literally or figuratively. Each day, one photo will be chosen at random to be featured on Fotolog's official Fotolog (http://www.fotolog.net/fotolog). On February 16th, two grand prize winners will receive one million minutes of Gold Member status (two years) and one million KB of digital storage for their cameras.
