BELLEVUE, Wash.--March 14, 2005--Infospace, Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP) today announced its partnership with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, and Corbis, a leading provider of complete visual solutions, to make iconic Hollywood content available for use in mobile phones. This mix of art, technology, and commerce has resulted in the creation of Infospace Mobile's new ScreenTones(TM) audio and video ringers for cell phones.
"Everybody has favorite lines and scenes from the movies," said Mark Levy, vice president, content and publishing for Infospace Mobile. "This relationship allows us to deliver those cinematic moments as ScreenTones(TM) to mobile users. Working with Universal and Corbis, we have begun to unlock the full potential of mobile audio and video content."
Through Infospace Mobile, mobile operators will be able to offer a full suite of voice and video ringers, ringback tones, animated screensavers and wallpapers produced from some of the most popular and beloved Universal movies.
"Universal has eagerly anticipated the development of mobile applications that truly celebrate the great moments from our rich film and TV library since we entered the space in 2001," said Jeremy Laws, vice president of media licensing and strategy for Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. "Now that the technology is here, by virtue of leveraging Corbis' unparalleled rights-enabling skills together with Infospace Mobile's distribution and technical prowess, we are poised to deliver the next 'must have' mobile entertainment products to consumers' handsets."
"Corbis has been providing visual solutions for its mobile partners since 2000," said Mark Sherman, vice president assignment and representation and emerging businesses for Corbis. "There has always been a strong interest in celebrity and Hollywood content. As a result, we are thrilled to be playing a key role in facilitating the availability of this content for mobile use."
Video ringtones are one of most anticipated new categories in mobile phone personalization. Offering video clips from popular culture, such as scenes from top films, television shows and music videos to mobile users will provide them a great new way to accessorize their phones while creating an additional revenue opportunity for mobile operators.
