A Night (Photography Exhibition) to Remember

September 28, 2006. Once again Studio Nocturne Open Studio returns to Fort Mason. The Nocturnes, a photographers collective based in San Francisco, will be hosting 13 photographers at Fort Mason, October 21 and 22, in Building A. This is the fourth Studio Nocturne exhibit at Fort Mason. While this group of photographers can usually be found practicing their art under the full moon or city lights, they will again brave the daylight to show their work as part of San Francisco Open Studios 2006.

Leica Camera takes over majority of shares of Sinar AG

Solms, Germany, 25.09.2006. Leica Camera AG, Solms, takes over 51% of the shares of Sinar AG, Feuerthalen/Switzerland, from JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH, Jena ("JENOPTIK"). JENOPTIK and Leica Camera AG have signed corresponding acquisition and transfer contracts on September 25, 2006. Confidentiality was agreed concerning the transfer price.

'ORPHAN WORKS' BILL DIES IN COMMITTEE

Philadelphia, PA, Sept. 27, 2006. Independent photographers and illustrators are breathing a sigh of relief: The latest Orphan Works bill (the Copyright Modernization Act of 2006, HR 6052) appears to have died in committee. On Wednesday, Sept. 27, the bill's sponsor, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), announced that he was withdrawing the bill from consideration at that markup session, which is likely to be the last one this year. He said that he did not see any reasonable chance that it would be signed into law in the current Congress. He also said that he plans to introduce another bill when the new Congress convenes next year.
