Duesseldorf, April 12, 2007. Stock photography agency Masterfile will be publishing the first issue of its themed magazine in mid-May 2007. The intention is to publish the magazine, which is aimed at a creative target group, at regular intervals thereafter, initially three times a year. Each issue of the magazine will be a separate entity telling a story relating to a different wide-ranging topic.
The layout and images drawn from the Masterfile portfolio of over 800,000 pictures will be deliberately designed to avoid the classical stock photo cliché, instead setting their own individual tone. The magazine is intended to serve as a pool of ideas for its creative target group and to provide layout and imaging ideas as well as some pure eye candy. Masterfile also aims to surprise its readers in each issue anew with some innovative motifs, unusual combinations of images and contemporary, theme-oriented layouts.
The magazine’s layout will be geared to the theme chosen for that issue. Accordingly, apart from the title, the Masterfile magazine will reinvent itself for each issue, thus making it a collector’s item. The first issue, for instance, will tackle the topic of music, telling the story of making, listening to, playing, living, loving and dreaming of music. From buying records to listening and technical experiences, to international tour reports on fictional bands, rock star experiences and the dreams of up-and-coming musicians, a broad spectrum of images will be presented.
As the issues progress, readers will increasingly be invited to participate interactively. Prize competitions, references to image search opportunities and the extension of themes on the Masterfile microsite will all offer the chance for readers to enter into direct dialogue with each other. Furthermore, readers will also have the opportunity to become actively involved and choose the themes of subsequent issues. The magazine will be published throughout Europe in all markets relevant for Masterfile. As a result, the choice of the individual themes has taken a wide international spectrum into account.
The design and content of the 48-page magazine was developed by the Düsseldorf Masterfile design team working together with the Stuttgart design agency Strichpunkt (www.strichpunkt-design.de). Cooperations and advertisement insertions by external partners and companies are also possible, provided they are in keeping with the character of the magazine. In the long term Masterfile is not ruling out introducing a cover charge for the magazine.
