I wrote earlier about "StockImagery: A New Yahoo Group For Professional Stock Photographers", founded by Clarence W. Walker (Stock Imagery was the old synonym of ISIA), then "International Stock Imagery Association: Continues To Grow, Selected Interim Board Of Directors" and that ISIA selected the Board of Directors (Link to the new ISIA forum).
Executive Director Clarence Walker mailed today an official declaration named: "International Stock Imagery Association: What’s in it for me?"
As it certainly will no be very easy for this young association to reach its audience via the traditional media, here´s what he wrote in detail [Update: here´s the full press release with more details]:
International Stock Imagery Association
What’s in it for me?
Many times I have been asked by individuals in various professional positions around the industry why they personally would be interested in the I.S.I.A.. Most often, by the time they have heard a simple explanation of what I.S.I.A. stands for, that’s sufficient for them to overwhelmingly say…”YES! The industry needs this.”
You see, I.S.I.A. is far more than another place to pay big bucks for the same old list of deliverables. I.S.I.A is about individuals, it’s about preparing for growth in an industry that is rapidly growing and changing, it’s about community, values, ethics, and a shared vision. Yes, I.S.I.A. is already a worldwide association representing virtually every segment of the stock, graphics arts, and photographic fields commonly know as stock imagery, but, far more, the I.S.I.A. is about YOU.
To be honest, to fully understand what’s in it for you, one has to really understand the founding principles and directions of I.S.I.A. as a community with many diverse interests, backgrounds, levels of income, fields of expertise, countries of origin and so much more, but one generally shared vision, that vision reflected below:
Mission and Goals
I.S.I.A. is an international industry association that represents the needs and provides resources for its individual members involved as professionals in the many fields that are involved in the capture, production and distribution of stock imagery.
I.S.I.A. seeks to create an environment for communications and the delivery of resources that are conducive to the continued development and maintenance of ethical, professional standards and practices based upon respect for the individual.
I.S.I.A. is an association based upon inclusivity, wherein its members views may be expressed and received with respect, regardless of age, income, experience, or industry affiliations whether with other associations, channels of distribution or any areas of personal or professional involvement.
To accomplish our goals I.S.I.A. stresses individual member participation and the development of services and resources.
That last part, the part all about individual participation, is what has brought us so far in such a short time. We realized a short while back that we had two possible routes, one involved hiring out all that we had to do and then charging a large membership fee. To date, no one has been charged a dime and no monies have been spent. That which has been accomplished has come through the contributions and efforts of individuals just like yourself all working together and using our own backgrounds and experience to achieve one thing, the launch of I.S.I.A., the launch of something that is right, whose time has come, but, far more, the launch and development of something we all believe in.
Yeah, I know it sounds a bit old fashioned, but, through working together respectfully, we are offering you something that is good and a place where you too can contribute and benefit.
So, how can you benefit?
Well, for one there is the new website!
Over time you can find on the I.S.I.A. website a reliable source of news, community, and valuable resources. We foresee using the website as but one of our vehicles of communication and for the provision of the deliverables we are already developing…brainstorming if you will…how to use this as an industry resource without peer.
On the I.S.I.A. website you may well soon find even more enhanced news feeds, interesting articles from a wide variety of sources, industry and marketing information, access to our powerful new forum where you can discuss issues in special topical rooms, members-only sections with information available only to members, active portfolios and opportunities to promote your business, opportunities to submit your images to regular competition and receive both acknowledgement and rewards, online development and research tools, and whatever the mind can conceive and, together, we can deliver.
Sure, we will be exploring even greater offerings in the future, but this isn’t a bad start!
The I.S.I.A. board is already discussing ways to enhance our association and cooperation with other associations, industry groups, business, and services providers. This covers a broad range of areas ranging from insurance coverage, to training seminars, consulting services, legal advice, discounts, product offerings and even more. With your help, your agreement with our basic principles, and a little help from our worldwide community of members and associates we CAN!
Give I.S.I.A. a chance to be a key component of your professional success and enjoyment.
