Ann Tornkvist wrote the first entry "Welcome to the Magnum Blog" during the "secret" launch period already on Dec. 01, 2006:
"Magnum Photos is delighted to introduce the Magnum Blog, an online forum for discussing photography and photojournalism. The Magnum Blog is intended to inspire debate. We invite the Blog’s readers to actively post comments to the stories, adding examples of their own experiences, their questions, and their criticism".
Magnum today explained in general:
"This represents a major shift in the way that Magnum communicates with both its professional clients and the photography community. In Magnum’s 60 year history, this is the first time we’ve opened ourselves up to ongoing two way dialogue between photographers, bureau staff, consumers and professionals – all at the same. We also aim to give a much closer insight in the minds of the magnum photographers, and what happens behind the scenes within the agency’s four offices".
The Magnum Blog starts with five categories: Behind the image, Behind the project, From the field, Inside Magnum and Understanding the trade.
